FestiVOL 2025 – Thank you!
On a grey and rainy Lancaster morning, the warmth inside King’s Community Church told a different story – one of collaboration, compassion and shared purpose. Lancaster District’s FestiVOL 2025 brought together people and organisations from across the district’s voluntary, community, faith and social enterprise (VCFSE) sector for a day dedicated to tackling health inequalities together.
This year’s theme captured what lies at the heart of our work, that in recognising that health is about far more than hospitals and prescriptions. It’s about income, housing, belonging, safety, and connection and how our sector helps shape these every day.
Guest speakers Tracy Hopkins, Chair of the Lancashire & South Cumbria VCFSE Alliance, and Michelle Collins from Lancaster University provided thought-provoking perspectives on how local action and research can combine to create fairer systems and stronger communities.
The morning’s workshops — led by The Ridge Community Centre, People First Advocacy, LDHAS, Bay Veterans and Queer by Gum — gave space for ideas, stories and new partnerships to emerge. Alongside these, creative wellbeing sessions from Wildlife Wellbeing Walks, home-baked treats from Friends of Lancaster Library, and a heartfelt performance from The Dukes’ Prime Time company brought warmth, creativity and connection to the day.
FestiVOL 2025 was more than an event; it was a reminder of what can happen when our sector comes together with openness, courage and care.To everyone who attended, contributed, or supported behind the scenes — thank you. Collectively we are building a district where everyone has the chance to live well and be well.

Budget 2025 and What It Means for the Voluntary Sector
This year’s Budget focuses on stabilising the economy while supporting public services and tackling poverty—developments that could shape the work of the third sector locally. The scrapping of the two-child limit on Universal Credit is expected to lift 450,000 children out of poverty, a change welcomed across community networks. Extra investment in the NHS and 250 new Neighbourhood Health Centres aim to strengthen local healthcare access, while the new Youth Guarantee will fund training and work opportunities for young people. The Budget also raises the National Living Wage to £12.71 an hour from April 2026 and freezes rail fares and prescription charges for a year, offering some relief to struggling households. With further funding committed to regional growth and public service reform, this year’s measures could open new opportunities for community and voluntary organisations to support local resilience and wellbeing.

Opportunities for Volunteering from Home
Do you have any volunteering roles that can be done from home? We would like to increase the number of options that are available for people who either cannot, or would prefer not to, go out to volunteer.
This can include people with disabilities; people who are challenged by anxiety, depression, or other mental wellbeing issues; people with short-term illness or injury that prevents them from going out; people who are isolating because of some other health related issue; or perhaps just people who want to do something but would find it more convenient to work from home.
Roles that could be done from home could include things like administration, finance, social media, marketing and promotion, telephone befriending etc and often would only require minimal equipment, such as a computer and an internet connection.
Please contact [email protected] with your volunteering needs. We have volunteers waiting for home-based roles, so there is potential for a quick referral.

You can now also add more users to your account. Once registered, log in, hover on Account at the top of the dashboard and click ‘Users’, where you can add more users. This will be useful if you would like someone else to check applicant info and contact potential volunteers.
You can also now choose which category to add your opportunity under, to help people when searching for roles. If you can’t find an appropriate category, just use the ‘default’ category and let us know what categories you would like to see added.

Share Your Experience: Adult Social Care Referrals in 2025
Every referral from Adult Social Care to our sector represents a chance to make a real difference in someone’s life. We want to capture the scale and impact of this work across Lancaster District during 2025 – and your input is essential.
This year, Lancaster District CVS has been involved in a pilot with Adult Social Care through ASC Transformation Funding. Via our Social Prescribing Hub, we have provided a single point of access for four Adult Social Care teams to refer individuals to appropriate community support. This approach has not only streamlined referrals but also enabled us to build capacity within some local VCFSE organisations.
We’d like to know more about how our member organisations interact with Adult Social Care, with the aim of gathering evidence that could help us further build capacity.
The insights we gather now will help us make the case for future and extended funding, ensuring that the vital role of VCFSE organisations continues to be recognised and supported.
By completing this short survey, you’ll help us:
- Demonstrate the collective value of VCFSE organisations
- Highlight successes and challenges in supporting referred individuals
- Shape future support and resources for the sector
Please take a few minutes to complete our survey and share your experience.
Deadline: 15th January 2026
Your voice matters. Together, we can show the incredible contribution our sector makes every day – and secure the resources needed to keep making that difference.
Thank you for your time and commitment.
