Overcoming Health Inequalities – Share your Stories
The theme for this year’s Festivol event in November (watch this space for a Save the Date coming soon) is how the VCFSE sector helps people overcome health inequalities they are facing.
With this in mind we are looking for beneficiaries to share their stories for a film we would like to make to illustrate this. We are looking for people who have directly benefitted from your organisations’ intervention and as a result their health inequality has reduced. We would love to chat to them and find out more and if they are happy to be involved film them sharing their story (this could be anonymous).
If you have anyone who you think fits the bill please get in touch with any of the Festivol Planning committee – Yak, Sharon, Jen, Jim and we’ll take it from there. Or email [email protected]

Celebrating Community Champions: Volunteer Achievement Awards 2025
What an unforgettable way to mark Volunteer Week this year! The 20th annual Volunteer Achievement Awards brought nearly 150 guests together at The Strathmore Hotel for an evening filled with pride, laughter, and heartfelt recognition. Congratulations to our inspiring winners — Kathy, Emma, Katherine, Joe, Shawn, Patricia, Lydia, Remy, and Elzbieta — and to everyone who received a well-deserved certificate. Each story shared was a powerful reminder of the dedication and impact of volunteers across the Lancaster District.
A huge thank you to all who made the evening so special — from our brilliant presenters our Chair Paul and Trustee Ali to nominators, supporters and sponsors and the fantastic team at The Strathmore. You helped create a night to remember and a perfect finale to Volunteer Week. In the words of the Mayor of Lancaster – “you are ALL champions.”

Supporting our Local Food Clubs
We stand with our friends and partners at the Lancaster District Food Justice Partnership (LDFJP) as they face ongoing challenges with food supply across the network of community food clubs. Spending Review 2025: What It Means for Charities
The 2025 Spending Review offers a few positives for charities – including extended free school meals, reinstated Winter Fuel Payments for lower-income households, and investment in youth services and social housing. However, it falls short of addressing core concerns. Welfare cuts remain in place, Employer National Insurance contributions stay high, and local councils still face severe financial pressures, likely impacting funding for voluntary sector partners. While the Charity Commission’s budget is increasing, other key areas like DCMS face real-term cuts.
With rising costs, growing demand, and tighter funding, the review reinforces the need for fairer contracts, long-term investment (such as the proposed Community Wealth Fund), and stronger partnerships under the upcoming Civil Society Covenant.

Project Management Volunteer Available
We have been contacted by a recently reskilled project manager who is looking to build experience within the field while helping out some local voluntary organisations along the way.
He is preferably seeking an “Agile” way of delivering projects but would also consider more traditional styles.
He’s flexible on hours and is looking for an opportunity that lasts no more than 3 months. However, if you only had space for a week or even half a day he would be very grateful of the experience. The format is flexible – it could be shadowing or practical support.
Perhaps you have an event you’re organising, or maybe there’s a project you’ve been trying to get off the ground for a while but just haven’t had the expertise – maybe he can help.
If you think your organisation might be able to benefit and you’d be happy to support this individual, please get in touch with Mark – [email protected] – and he will introduce you.

Stay Connected with Your Integrated Care Community (ICC)
Integrated Care Communities (ICCs) are integrated teams of health and care workers, third sector organisations, statutory organisations and wider community assets. We work together with the aim to improve physical & mental health outcomes, promote wellbeing and reduce health inequalities.

Each hosts a monthly online networking meeting which is a great opportunity to meet new partners, find out what is happening locally and share updates of your own. Each ICC also has a Facebook page and a monthly newsletter that goes out far and wide.
If you aren’t available to go along to a meeting but have something to share – don’t worry! Jenny, our Community Health Officer, attends each ICC and is very happy to update the meeting on your behalf – sharing items of news or events that are coming up.
Contacts for each of the ICC’s are below.

Call for Local Green Spaces
Your help is needed to identify areas of Local Green Space across the district.
Access to a network of high quality open spaces and opportunities for sport and physical activity is important for health and the wellbeing of communities. The designation of land as Local Green Space through local plans allows communities to identify and protect green areas of particular importance to them. Planning policies for managing development within Local Green Spaces are consistent with Green Belts and therefore the level of protection afforded through designation is high. Local Green Spaces can only be designated when a Plan is being prepared or updated.
The call for Local Green Spaces will run to Monday 28 July 2025.
