Morecambe Maritime Festival

The Morecambe Maritime Festival launched just two years ago, in 2024, celebrating 200 years of the RNLI. That first year’s programme featured captivating performances of sea songs and shanties across five venues in Morecambe, including the Winter Gardens.

2025 was a bigger affair, building on the success of the launch year with events across over a dozen venues, and again celebrating the work of the RNLI. And in 2026 the festival returned featuring music, workshops, crafts and more.

Morecambe has a rich maritime history, greatly tied to fishing and ship breaking. You can see more about it HERE. And it’s a history and heritage worth celebrating, especially when those celebrations are so entertaining!

2027 looks set to be a bumper year for the festival, but it needs support. John Metcalfe, whose idea this all was, does sterling work pulling all of this together and over the years he’s had some wonderful support from some amazingly hard working and dedicated volunteers. But sometimes people move on and sometimes new roles come up needing new blood – here’s where you could help.

For the 2027 festival, could you be a Festival Delivery Coordinator, helping to turn the festival plan into a great day out?

Or perhaps you might be interested in becoming a Community Engagement Coordinator, being the link with local people and groups and helping to ensure that everyone feels welcome at next year’s event?

Both of these roles promise to be hugely interesting and rewarding and you will have the opportunity to bring your creativity and ideas to them, helping to further establish the Morecambe Maritime Festival as one of our district’s premier annual events. You can click the links above for more details and to apply, or email [email protected] and ask to be put in touch with John for a chat.
