A Summer at the Heart of Our Communities

One of the best things about summer is the opportunity to take part in the various family fun days across Lancaster and Morecambe; meeting residents, celebrating community spirit, and helping people discover the support, activities and opportunities available right on their doorstep.

But events like these are about so much more than games and entertainment. They create spaces where neighbours can meet, families can spend time together, friendships can grow, and people can find out about the organisations and services that help our communities thrive. They also provide valuable opportunities for local groups and services to connect with residents and help people get the support they need.

Our summer began at the Mainway Community Fun Day in Skerton, with community stalls, giant games, face painting, food and drink, and even the chance to meet friendly alpacas and farm animals. It was wonderful to see so many people coming together to enjoy the day and connect with their local community.

Next up was the Langridge Community Fun Day in Morecambe. Alongside sharing information about volunteering opportunities and local support services, the team brought along the ever-popular Hula Hoop Challenge, which proved to be a hit with both children and adults, bringing plenty of smiles, laughter and friendly competition.

Another highlight was the Lancaster City Council Housing Family Fun Day at King George’s Playing Fields, bringing together local organisations, community groups and families for a day packed with activities, entertainment and opportunities to connect. We enjoyed speaking with residents about local services and the many ways people can get involved in their community.

Our final family fun day of the summer was the Branksome Good Neighbours Community Fun Day, held in glorious sunshine. With food, activities, face painting and plenty of Hula Hoop Challenge action, it was a fantastic celebration of neighbourhood spirit. We particularly enjoyed seeing families, volunteers and local organisations coming together to create such a welcoming and positive atmosphere.

Across all four events, one thing stood out above everything else: the strength of our local communities. These events are made possible by dedicated volunteers, residents’ groups, community organisations, and partners who give their time, energy and enthusiasm to create welcoming spaces where people can connect, feel supported and have fun.
