Volunteers Week Thank You for Making a Difference
- On
This week is National Volunteers’ Week, a national, annual, week-long celebration of volunteers and volunteering. It’s an opportunity not only to thank volunteers for their efforts, but to also promote volunteering as a positive and life affirming way of spending your free time.

Volunteering across our district is as deep as it is broad, from charity shops to food growing, from minibus driving to helping people research their family trees. You would be surprised what you can do as a volunteer!
Lancaster District CVS would like to take this opportunity to say a huge thank you to every single volunteer in the district, past, present, or future! The difference that you make is immeasurable and we want you to know how loved and appreciated you are.
Next week almost 200 local volunteers will be receiving special certificates, requested by a variety of organisations across the area, as part of our efforts to celebrate. There is a real appetite from groups to thank their volunteers, as demonstrated by the countless enquiries that we have received over the last few months about the nomination deadline for our Volunteer Achievement Awards – which aren’t until 2027!
If you have never volunteered and would like to find out more about volunteering and its benefits, you can always contact the Volunteer Centre at Lancaster District CVS, but there are also many other ways to get involved. If you are a parent, you might find that your child’s school welcomes volunteers. If you live near to a community centre or village hall or similar, you will probably find that they offer a range of activities that often require volunteers to support them.
You might have particular skills that you would like to share, such as cooking for a luncheon club or community café, or bookkeeping for a small organisation or project. Or there could be skills you would like to gain – volunteering can be a great way to learn new things, get new experiences, and receive training, not to mention making new friends!
The volunteering ecosystem across Lancaster district is vibrant and diverse. The 2026 celebration will run from Monday 1st – Sunday 7th June.
